The Cathedral of Saint Ignatius Loyola serves as the central church of the Diocese of Palm Beach. The word ‘cathedral’ comes from the Latin ‘cathedra‘, meaning ‘seat’ – the seat of the Bishop.
Branching out from this seat in his home parish, the Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito has lovingly tended to the spiritual needs of over 240,000 Catholics in 50 parishes across the Diocese.
Pope Leo XIV has appointed Father Manuel de Jesús Rodríguez, currently pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, Corona (Queens), New York, as the sixth Bishop of Palm Beach. The bishop-elect succeeds Bishop Gerald M. Barbarito, who has served the diocese since 2003.
As the Rector of the Cathedral, the Very Reverend Gavin J. Badway has been entrusted with overseeing the operations of the Cathedral and serving as the pastor to the parish that the Cathedral serves.
