Anointing of the Sick
“Is any among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” – James 5:14-15
REQUESTING THE SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING (LAST RITES)
The anointing of the sick can be administered to any baptized Catholic who has reached the age of reason, and is in danger due to sickness or old age. An anointing can be repeated if the illness progresses or the danger increases. It should be noted that the danger only needs to have begun to exist. The person does not have to be “in extremis” (in imminent danger of dying).
