Sacrament Preparation
Sacrament Preparation is a wonderful and special time. The community of the Cathedral of St. Ignatius is pleased and blessed to partner with the families and guide them through this process. The primary educators for the sacrament(s) are the parents. It is our expectation that children attend Mass on Sundays and follow the requirements for Sacrament Preparation (RCIC/ Baptism, First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and Confirmation) for children and youth ages 7 to 17 years old:
-
At least one year of faith formation (attends CCE or a Catholic school) immediately prior to the year of preparation with good attendance (at least 70%).
-
Enrollment in CCE or attends a Catholic school the year of preparation.
-
Enrollment in Sacrament Preparation for the sacrament(s) your child needs to receive. This requires an additional form from the Youth Formation Office and meetings specific to the sacrament(s).
NOTE: Registration for 2019-2020 Sacrament Preparation has ended. Registration for 2020-2021 Sacrament Preparation will open in May 2020.
Rite of Christian Initiation for Children and Youth (RCIC)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children and Youth (RCIC) is designed to prepare children and youth to become fully initiated members of the Catholic Church. RCIC is open to any child between the ages of 7 and 17 years old, who is not baptized, and has expressed a desire to become Catholic. RCIC is a series of classes that prepare children and youth for receiving the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and First Eucharist.
First Eucharist and First Reconciliation
Children and youth ages 7 to 17 years old, who have already been baptized, can prepare for the sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession/ Penance) and Eucharist (Communion). Preparation for Reconciliation (in the fall) must be completed before beginning preparation for Eucharist (in the spring).
